The clutch fork is a hydraulic or mechanical releasing device that helps engage and disengage the clutch. You’ll hear noises when the lubricant dries out and the mechanism wears down.
The clutch fork and connecting linkage convert the movement of the clutch pedal to the back and forth movement of the clutch throw-out bearing. This action allows the pressure plate’s springs to force against the clutch disc, engaging the clutch to the flywheel.
Furthermore, how do you know if your clutch fork is bad? As Damon said, vibration in the pedal is a big tip off. Just place your foot on the pedal with the car on. If you are feeling vibration on that pedal the culprit is probably the fork. Also when mine went, the car would vibrate when I down shifted, and first gear from a stop chattered horribly.
